Single dad seeking help when daughter starts her first period gets wholesome responses from strangers
Young girls experience their first period in the most unexpected fashion. No one expects it to come at the time it does and only certain preparations can help. A woman needs a lot more than the right products, especially if it is her first period. A confused single dad, u/notafrenchspy, approached Reddit to seek help when his daughter got her first period. Though the dad had knowledge about the subject, he wanted to put his best foot forward in helping his daughter. He shared a post with several questions, and people selflessly came forward to help him. The dad shared a backstory and mentioned that his daughter was at a friend’s house when she got her period and they luckily had pads and other material.
The dad was a little nervous about the situation and what the right thing to do would be. “What do I need to be doing? Pads, tampons or cups? Different things for different situations? Should I just buy different products with different levels of absorbency and let her figure out what's comfortable? Should I have a specific pain relief on hand or just hot water bottles?” he asked strangers on the internet. With almost 8,000 comments, the internet poured in responses to help the dad learn everything he needed to for his daughter.
From personal experiences, information, remedies, support and encouragement, people went all out to give the dad a kickstart. u/junglemice wrote, “Love that you're asking this and you've got sound advice already. Here's my take - Get her a little period care stash.” Many commenters shared everything from A to Z about period knowledge, helping the dad make all the necessary arrangements. u/hellsangel101 added, “Get a couple of mattress protectors to switch out if you haven’t already got some. Useful for if leaks happen, it won’t stain the mattress.”
u/SnoopsMom shared, “She might not use them right away, but it wouldn't hurt to stock tampons and cups. She might want to try them but be too anxious to ask.” u/JudgementOne6328 mentioned, “I’d say as her hormones will be coming into full effect it might be nice to get her some basic skincare to help with the changes her skin will go through, spots etc.” u/Faerie42 mentioned, “My dad got me a hot water bottle which looked like a stuffed toy puppy, I still have it and it’s very special in my heart (I’m menopausal now). He also added ‘period chocolates’ to the grocery list, I got that along with my stock every month. He was a firm believer that chocolate could fix almost everything.”
Along with preparations for his daughter, people also shared things the dad can do or expect. u/mantolwen suggested, “If stuff gets blood on it, soak it in cold water with stain remover powder (I like Vanish) for 6 hours and then a normal wash should take the blood out even if it feels very stuck in.” u/sbiggers remarked, “This means your daughter now ovulates which means she can now get pregnant. If you haven't had the super honest and detailed sex talk with her yet, it's time. Cheers dad, you got this!” u/doublebending exclaimed, “You are pure gold, coming from a single father of an eleven-year-old daughter.” Kudos to the internet for coming through and being a supportive beacon of light for the dad and many like him!
