Stranger called her ‘disgusting’ for a short skirt to a restaurant — her blunt response made her regret her words instantly

She was diagnosed with autism, which made sudden public confrontations especially overwhelming and anxiety-inducing.

Most people can stay patient in the face of public harassment through one rude comment, maybe even two. But there often comes a point when relentless disrespect pushes people into reacting in ways even they do not recognize. For Reddit user u/Kxttari, that moment came during a regular bar visit with her friends. While trying to get some rest and manage an impending migraine, she suddenly heard a woman make a horrible comment about her outfit. And when the harassment continued, she finally snapped with a much-needed comeback, which rendered the other speechless. She shared the same on Reddit on Monday, April 27, 2026.

The storyteller had briefly leaned her head against the table booth because she was trying to manage an incoming migraine. Instead of leaving her alone, the woman next to them started firing comments. First, she accused her of exposing her undergarments. Then she mocked her for having no self-respect, even though the user repeatedly explained she was clearly wearing shorts under her skirt. Rather than drop it, the woman repeatedly called her "disgusting." The Reddit user finally gave her the response she had earned. “I’d be disgusted too if I had to look in the mirror and see that every day," she said.

The woman walked off with her boyfriend after that. Although said in the heat of the moment, the user admitted from the start that she was not proud of how she responded and does not support attacking someone’s appearance, no matter how angry she felt. She also shared that she is diagnosed with autism, which can make sudden public confrontations especially overwhelming and anxiety-inducing. In stressful moments like that, people often react defensively rather than with perfectly measured words.

The comment section was a mix of people discussing autism, and others commenting on bar etiquette, although that doesn't justify the other woman's action. However, many came to support the creator. u/RedheadedJusticeGirl mentioned, "Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it." u/One-Passion5107 remarked, "She was being vile, well done for sticking up for yourself." Meanwhile, u/IlumidoraFae noted, "She confronted you for literally no reason and was rude. She could have minded her own business."

In one of the comments, the creator herself explained that it took her a while to understand she was being insulted. She was told, "Hey, girlypop, your panties are showing,” and she assumed the other woman was a girl's girl, so she continued being nice. This shows that the creator isn't inherently rude, but rather pushed into reacting.

The storyteller was there with two of her friends and her brother, who ended up defending her. At the end, she also mentioned that the woman had been drinking and might have thought she was trying to hit on her boyfriend while trying to rest in that position. Even so, alcohol may explain poor judgment, but it does not excuse humiliating a stranger in public.
