Hoang held back tears as she said, "Pearl is, was, and shall be my best friend." Despite her passing, not a single day goes by that she doesn't think of her. The student confessed that she still texts her, holding on to her hope of receiving a text back. She revealed that Pearl always motivated her to do things, saying, "Do it for me." It is the same encouragement she carried with her to complete her education despite the shattering loss. "Now I'm standing on the stage because I can say I did it for her," she mentioned, choking up. In a few words, the young woman revealed the value and power of friendship, and the superintendent was touched.
Sharing in a recent clip, Hoang mentioned that Pearl had lost her life due to a brain tumor. She was only 17. Having met her in the 4th grade, the duo had been together until the end. Recalling the guilt she felt in the initial weeks of her passing, she noted how it was hard for her to even get out of bed. The student admitted, "I asked myself, 'Why do I get to wake up, and she doesn't? Why do I get to go to college, and she doesn't? Why do I get to live my dream and she doesn't?'" The most heartbreaking part was watching other best friends, wondering why she and Pearl never got the chance to "grow old together."
Sometimes, you don't have to be close to someone to feel their pain. The man may not have known the girls personally, but hearing the young woman deliver the heartfelt speech stirred emotions in him. It spoke volumes about his kind heart. Many online users were also touched. @Danbro shared, "That man behind you is so proud of you for this moment. Even if he doesn’t know you, he's so impressed." @bikermomma1 added, "His heart is broken for her." @alliekitkatt said, "Is that Mr. Berger behind you? I'd go to war for that man. Congratulations on your graduation, you did it for you and for Pearl."
