TikTok creator thought a ‘handsome stranger’ who bought her drinks genuinely liked her — then she overheard what he told his friends
Getting approached by someone attractive at a bar can feel like the perfect start to a night out, until you realize there’s a reason they picked you. TikTok creator Morgan Roos found that out the hard way after heading to a bar alone on Saturday night. On August 24, 2026, she shared the bizarre encounter under her handle @morganroos96, explaining that a handsome 23-year-old stranger recognized her from TikTok, bought her drinks, and asked her to dance. It seemed like a promising night until she overheard what he told one of his friends.
Roos said the night started off unexpectedly well. While she was sitting alone at the bar, a tall, handsome man approached her, asked if she was Morgan from TikTok, and offered to buy her a drink. He introduced himself and chatted for a while before asking her to dance. But as they were on the dance floor, Roos noticed his friends nearby taking pictures and whispering among themselves. She soon realized they knew him, and moments later, she heard him lean toward one of them and say, “Yo, Maddie’s going to freak when she finds out I cracked the TikTok b****.” The comment immediately made Roos stop and wonder whether she had completely misunderstood his intentions.
Roos immediately confronted him, asking who Maddie was and why she would “freak” if she found out about them. He then admitted that Maddie was his recent ex, explaining that she was obsessed with Roos’ TikTok videos and that they had even argued about how often she watched them. According to him, their breakup had been messy, and he thought getting with Roos would make his ex jealous. Roos quickly shut that down, telling him, “First off, we’re not cracking.” When he tried to laugh it off and apologize, she walked away, only for him to throw one final insult at her: “You’re not funny anyway.”
Roos said the encounter left her completely turned off. What she initially thought was a genuine interest suddenly seemed to be little more than a way for the man to score points with his friends and get a reaction from his ex. The experience only reminded her why she had stayed out of the dating scene for the past six years. The comments section was equally entertained by the unexpected twist. @thatrileykid4 wrote, “I can’t wait for Maddie to see this.” @laurenx526 mentioned, “Sounds like you and Maddie dodged a bullet.” Meanwhile, @76vega remarked, “Those were not men. They were children—boys.”
Not every attractive stranger who approaches you at a bar may have a genuine interest; sometimes, the charm can disappear in seconds. In another dating disaster, Instagram creator Olivia recalled a man approaching her at a bar despite already having a girlfriend. Instead of simply introducing himself, he bluntly told her, “I am not single, but if I was, I would try to take you home tonight.” She was stunned by the remark, especially because he had made his intentions clear without even asking for her number. Olivia argued that you do not have to physically cheat to cross a relationship boundary; sometimes, what you say is enough.
