Reconnecting with someone from the past often unleashes a cascade of memories. It also gives people a chance to finally complete unfinished conversations. Something similar happened to a woman who had lost her husband and it led to an unexpected turn in her life. The 47-year-old woman, u/Kagome23, shared on Reddit how a chance encounter with her school crush changed her life forever. She began her post, "So, there was a guy I knew in high school back in the 1990s. (I'm now 47; he's 48. Yep, we're old)." She remembered him as "cute" and that they were both "nerds who loved 'Magic: The Gathering' and comics." Though she had a crush on him, they never dated, and after high school, their lives went in different directions.

She wrote, "I got married, had a kid and was living a really happy life. But then, I lost my husband to COVID-19 in 2021. It was terrible, and my son and I grieved horribly for a very long time." As she and her son slowly adjusted to life without her husband, she started resuming the hobbies she loved, including playing "Magic: The Gathering" with old-school friends at a local gaming store. That’s when she ran into the friend she had a crush on. She mentioned, "He was just as sweet and funny and cute as ever, even though 30 years had passed."

After a few months of catching up as friends, the woman finally decided to ask him out, "which he was surprised about but also pleased." Now, three months into dating, their shared interests have brought them even closer. "We do all the nerdy stuff we like together: Cons, Ren Faires, Magic: The Gathering, tabletop games. And he's so sweet to me, and my son, and my parents and all my pets, just unbelievably nice and kind to all of us." For her, this unexpected second chance at love has been both healing and beautiful. She concluded her post by saying, "Just wanted to share, because I just think it's all really sweet and maybe can let someone else know that you can find happiness again as grief recedes."

Her story made many people reminisce about their own stories of reconnecting with past loves and finding love again after loss. u/Rabide629 wrote, "I met my wife in high school circa 1982. We were friends and didn't stay in touch over the years. The last time we spoke was 86/87. 1997, I came back home and we reconnected. Been married since 1999. 4 kids and 6 grandchildren." u/Erikalicious shared, "I also lost my husband to COVID back in 2021, leaving me with two kids under the age of 10 to raise by myself. Meeting someone new is hard, but I did manage to snag someone who not only loves me through my grief but loves my kids like they are his own. It's a beautiful thing."

u/IslandWifey29 commented, "This is so sweet. I’m sorry for your loss, but I'm so happy you found love again, especially a long-lost love! Just extra sweet all around. Wish you many years of happiness!" u/zoeschaver penned, "I love these stories so much. Even if I ever came across the person I dated in high school again, I would run full tilt for the hills."
