Woman abandoned as baby gives up after years of searching for birth family—then a text 2 days later changes everything

Adopted kids often have the quest in their hearts to figure out what their life story was or what their original culture and roots were. A woman named Amber Nichols (@nicholsamber) also wondered what her story must have looked like before she was adopted by a family in the USA. Though she was given a gist of her life, she wanted to go in-depth and get the answers to the many questions that flooded her mind. However, after decades had passed, Nichols thought it was best to let go and stop the search, Newsweek reported. It was only when a text caught her off guard that she was back at it again, with a replenished energy to find her biological family.

Nichols revealed that she was left at a Korean police station when she was a baby. She was then adopted by a family and lived in the USA but knew she was different. "I remember hearing the story told over and over as long as I can remember. I didn't look like any of my family, so it was an obvious question that would be addressed as soon as we met anyone new,” she recalled. Her new family gave her love and acceptance but as she grew up, she often wondered why her birth mom decided to let her go. "The story they told me was that my birth mother was probably in a really tough situation and loved me so much that she was willing to give me up so that I could have a better life," Nichols recalled.

Over the years, this story became insufficient compared to the huge heartbreak of being “abandoned.” The woman felt rejected and questioned the thought even more. I really started to ache for my birth mother," she explained. She took several DNA tests and waited patiently for something to show up. However, with no lead, she soon began to feel like she was headed nowhere. Fate then came up with its own plan and two days after her last DNA test, she got a text that changed everything. The text she’d been waiting for, the hope of her mystery — a DNA match. After 50 long years, she found a full match with a woman who was her birth sibling.
@nicholsamber I was adopted as a baby from Korea, and just found my birth family. I’m telling my story here, in real time. :) #fyp #korean #korea #adoption #adoptee #adopted #birthfamily #50s #storytime #fypage #family ♬ original sound - Amber Nichols
"I literally went numb. I don't know why but it had never occurred to me that I had a sibling. I had always thought only of my mother, because she was the only thing that I knew had to exist,” Nichols remarked. She immediately got in touch with her sister and received pictures of her birth family, including a brother. It was revealed that Nichols' birth mom passed away when she was three months old. Her dad was sick and so his older siblings decided to look after the kids. The woman was separated from her siblings and was under the care of her aunt and grandmother.

Unfortunately, when the sister came to visit Nichols, she was told that she “moved away.” They lost touch and ever since, the other woman, too, had been looking with the same hope as Nichols. In her video, the woman shared the much-awaited reunion of the two sisters. As soon as she laid eyes on her, Nichols’ sister couldn't stop sobbing. An embrace they yearned for, for years, finally came through and it was evident. The woman reportedly also met others in her biological family and was glad to find a piece of home with them. She plans to continue to strengthen her relationship with her family. "It's all still very recent and raw. We are still figuring out how to have a relationship with someone whom you feel you know, and yet don't,” she said.
@nicholsamber The reunion. Meeting my sister for the first time is something I’ll never forget. It felt like coming home. She is full of love, and light, and joy. #reunion #family #sister #korea #adoption ♬ suono originale - sophia ★
