Single mom takes in abandoned baby girl—stunned after discovering girl's connection with her adopted son

Some events might seem as if they had divine intervention behind them. A single mom witnessed such an incident when she took in an abandoned baby girl after adopting her son. The woman from Parker, Colorado, Katie Page, noticed several similarities between the two children. Although there was no concrete evidence to support what she felt, the mom wanted to know if she was correct. Page ended up with a surprising discovery just a little while later, per PEOPLE.

Soon enough, Page was surprised to learn that her two adopted children were actually biological siblings. The woman had adopted her son, Grayson, in 2017 and he was around 2 years old when his mom learned about his connection with her adopted daughter, Hannah. Page had gotten a call about the abandoned baby girl just a month after adopting her son, per the outlet. She needed a foster home at that time, and the mom decided to take her in. The two babies had a lot of similar facial features. "There were features on the babies that were very similar. They both have a chin dimple, and the other feature is one that only a mama would see because it’s covered by their diaper!" Page explained.

She initially believed that the kids had different moms because their biological mother had put them up for adoption under two different last names. People at the adoption agency had no idea about the connection between Hannah and Grayson. While Page's family members and friends couldn't believe what she was saying. "They were as shocked as I was. Everybody thought I was crazy. I think everyone thought it was a far stretch because I didn’t have that much to go on, but my intuition was telling me there was more to the story. We kept it pretty quiet until there was more information to support the theory." The mom was able to confirm that her kids indeed had the same mother and even took a DNA test for the kids.

Because her kids were related, it became easier for Page to adopt Hannah in December 2018. "Because they were related, she was able to stay in my home – judges rule that way. They were meant to find each other; that’s pretty clear. I think God intended that from the beginning. If they weren’t related, Hannah would not have stayed with our family. She would have been placed with other relatives. It was a great thing." Page hoped to share the sweet story of her babies' adoption with them once they were older. A study from the University of Kentucky and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, found that adopting biological siblings can help each adoptee have more positive feelings about their adoption by looking at or listening to their sibling's experiences. This might eventually lead to better behavioral outcomes.
Hannah and Grayson had a great time getting to know each other and the mom was delighted to see that. "Life with them is never dull and boring. They are two peas in a pod. Especially now that both are walking," Page shared. "Miss Hannah is so exploratory. Grayson loves Hannah. She loves to follow him everywhere and be in everything. They’re just the cutest team trying to figure things out and learn everything."
