Woman ate 100 cans of boiled peanuts to cope with a breakup — when she thanked Peanut Patch, their response was not what she expected
People have different ways of coping with heartbreak. For TikTok user Ruby (@sciencequeer), it was through consuming boiled peanuts. The woman had been coping with a breakup after her wife left her in September 2025. She consumed over 100 cans of boiled peanuts over the following months. The item wasn't just to fill her tummy, but also worked as a consistent source of support. So, to express her gratitude, she mailed them a note of appreciation, but the response she received left her surprised. She shared her message on March 15, 2026, and it's the kind of humanity you hope everyone can experience at least once in their lifetime.

Ruby revealed that her breakup led to her losing sleep and losing over 30 pounds in a month. That's when her craving to buy boiled peanuts surfaced. She immediately started purchasing Peanut Patch's Boiled Peanut cans and, over the next few months, consumed more than 100 cans. As a note of appreciation, she sent the company a message of gratitude. In a follow-up video, she mentioned that the company replied. While they responded with a generic acknowledgement via email, their reply to her DM on Instagram left her in awe. They added that they would like to send Ruby a "care package" to assure her of their support. "Just a little something to remind you that there are better days ahead," they mentioned. In yet another clip, the woman revealed what the much-awaited care package contained — dozens of boiled peanut cans and a cauldron.

Their message also offered comfort and encouragement. "Divorce can be a big transition, but it can also be the beginning of something brighter, and we are rooting for you," they said. True to their promise in their message, with that stack of peanut cans, Ruby can be assured she "will always have a can of boiled peanuts waiting" for her. According to dietician Alessandra Stasnopolis at Baylor Scott & White Health wellness department, emotional eating is used by some individuals to cope with a range of emotions. "Humans have emotions, and sometimes these emotions are changed or affected by eating. Food is also involved in most social, cultural, and traditional situations. Eating during these situations or celebrations is normal and 100% okay," Stasnopolis noted.
Other online users shared their fascination with Ruby's unique way of coping with grief. @missallanea commented, "As someone married to a person who has to answer these kinds of emails, please know that your email is absolutely printed out and on a bulletin board somewhere." @FineapplePrincess wrote, "As a Florida-based lesbian who also consumes a concerning amount of boiled peanuts, can we be friends?" @Demi shared, "I'm so sorry, I started laughing before you even started reading the email. Those boiled peanuts gave you sustenance and clarity."
