Woman called her mom to apologize after having a miscarriage. Her mom's three-word reply healed her more than any medicine could have
A miscarriage can be really difficult for a parent envisioning their new life with their baby. So they might need all the love and support they can get from the people around them. A woman, Elena Nicolaou, went through a miscarriage and was really upset about the loss. She also felt "guilty" about what had happened, so she called her mom to "apologize" for it. She also felt pretty upset as her kids would be her mom's first set of grandchildren. However, three words from her mom healed her, according to an Instagram video, where she goes by @elenawonders. The video shared on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, received over 22,900 views on the platform.
"After my miscarriage, my mom told me something which is the best thing she could have told me in the moment," Elena began. She felt that she really needed to hear that. She was talking to her mom over the phone and "apologized." The woman was sorry and was "carrying guilt" around what had happened. She was really upset because she was also really excited for her parents and her husband's parents, apart from being happy herself.
Her mom said three words, "You are enough," in response. "She was like, even if you never have kids, you are enough. Just as you are." Elena felt that she didn't know, but she really needed to hear those words from her mother. For a lot of people, it was not just smooth nine months and "out of the gate," according to the woman. "And you don't know what is going to happen." So when her mom told her that she was enough and that she didn't need anything from her, it really helped her.
Elena felt that she might have internalized the belief that she owed her parents a grandchild from society, and her mom's words made a big difference for her. "I know she meant it, and I have also been telling myself that I am enough." She advised other moms to repeat those words to their kids if they were going through something like she was. The woman shares a really close relationship with her mother, and it has proved to be a "huge gift" for her.
People appreciated the mom's words in the comments section of the video. @zizz1 wrote, "What a beautiful example of love. Thank you for sharing. Huge hugs to your mom and you." @missgreyblue commented, "I love 'I don't need anything from you.' That is hugely freeing and loving. How wonderful to have a parent with that stance, but also the generosity to say it." @drvtcs remarked, "You have a good mom. You don't realize how lucky you are in that regard. I'm sorry you lost these babies."
