Woman couldn’t understand why he looked so upset after their cafe date — then he made one comment about the croissants before ending things
Not every breakup stems from a major disagreement. Sometimes, small differences in preference can reveal that two people simply aren't compatible. One such experience was shared by a Threads user, Daniela Dai, under her handle @hidanieladai on July 28, 2026. She went out with a man to grab a bite, and after they finished, he looked visibly upset. After pressing him to share what was on his mind, he made one comment about the croissants they had eaten, and then ended things with her.
Dai shared the screenshots of their conversations after the meeting. The duo had gone out to eat croissants. Seeing that he was annoyed or disappointed, the woman asked what was bothering him. After she insisted, he finally revealed that he found it “gross” the way Dai ate seven croissants. He added that the fact that she got crumbs all over her made the situation more unpleasant. She explained that she hadn’t had a chance to have dinner before they met, and so she was really hungry. However, that did little to ease his frustration. He admitted he liked her but found her eating habits weird.
The man tried to defend his words, saying he had sensory issues with food, and watching her eat it in haste made him uneasy. He went on to say that seeing her “almost choking” because she was consuming the baked items quickly was the most disturbing part. When she asked when that event happened, he specifically mentioned, “Between the 4th and 5th.” Dai didn’t feel the need to explain herself further after that exchange. If her date judged her for eating fast while hungry, and then got grossed out about it, it clearly meant they weren’t a match. In hindsight, the experience is nothing more than a joke to her.
Other women also found it funny because it was simply bizarre for someone to be creeped out by a person enjoying their food. Even men agreed that his behavior was unacceptable. @xsoy_divisionx said, “If my girl ate seven croissants in a row, I’d simply buy her an 8th right after.” @i_live_in_movies joked, “If they can’t handle you between your 4th and 5th croissant, do they really deserve you at your best?” @wowcass remarked, “I will no longer be 'at my wits' end,’ I will simply be 'between the 4th and 5th croissant.'”
Some breakups happen after a long conflict or a well-thought-out decision. On the other hand, some relationships end abruptly. In another instance, a woman named Abby ended things with a man over a $10 dispute. She started going out with him because he seemed genuine and had great qualities for a long-term partner. One day, he offered to pay to get her nails done. When she was finished, he sent her only $90, despite knowing the bill was $100. His reason? “I didn’t ask you to get the gel,” he said. The woman immediately called it quits, stating that his act showed how controlling he really was. “It's not about the funds, it's about principle,” she said.
