Woman looked forward to dating a wealthy man after he picked her up in an Audi — until he shared his 'secret to success' and she blocked him
The way people talk about their jobs can reveal far more than their careers alone. This becomes especially noticeable during the early stages of dating, when people are still trying to understand each other's values. On July 2, 2026, Instagram creator Kelly Ohgee, who posts under the handle @kellyohgee, shared one such value as to why she stopped speaking to a man after only one date. The pair had initially hit it off, and she was particularly surprised when he arrived for their first date in a luxury sports car. However, a conversation about his career and the way he approached his work eventually left her questioning whether the two viewed commitment in the same way.
It started when the man explained that he deliberately joined startup companies for their high salaries and stock packages, remaining there only until his shares vested before moving on to another company. While Kelly initially viewed the strategy as financially smart, she later found herself returning to the conversation. The idea of entering organizations, taking advantage of what they offered, and leaving once the benefits had been exhausted made her question how he viewed commitment more broadly. For the creator, his approach to work began to resemble a transactional view of relationships, leading her to wonder whether he might eventually treat romantic partners in the same way.
The creator's concerns reportedly grew as the pair continued talking. According to Kelly, the man began expressing strong feelings after only a couple of dates, telling her that he was grateful to have her in his life despite barely knowing her. These comments may also leave some people wondering whether the same approach he described in his career extends to his relationships as well. After all, the man had openly spoken about entering companies for what they could offer before eventually moving on. Hearing similarly strong expressions of affection so early may therefore make some question whether quickly gaining trust and emotional closeness is a strategy he relies on in other areas of his life too.
The comment section, however, had some mixed feelings. While @iamjustinlee said, "As a startup founder, I hope nothing but the worst for him", and @mr_embarrazzment commented, "You were going to be his next start-up", @jj.jax also wrote, "Quite a stretch. Tons of people are loyal to their company and not loyal in relationships. They aren't the same."
For many women navigating modern dating, conversations about careers often become an unexpected way of assessing values, maturity and compatibility. In another instance, TikTok creator Jezabel shared how a conversation with a potential date left her questioning everything. The man she was about to go on a date with had gone on another date and sent her a lengthy voice message describing the experience. He criticized the woman for asking what car he drove and interpreted certain actions as signs that she was interested in his finances. The situation became more uncomfortable when he described the woman's work as a content creator as a "red flag" and suggested that her online videos were inappropriate.
Curious about his own career, Jezabel asked what he did for a living. The man explained that he worked as a bodyguard, hoped to become a physician, and might eventually pursue law if his original plans did not work out. The creator found it ironic that someone who openly judged another woman's career choices appeared uncertain about his own path even at the age of 33, and approaching middle age. The exchange ultimately convinced her that the connection was not worth pursuing, leading her to unmatch him shortly afterward.
Early conversations often reveal more than people intend, particularly when they touch on ideas of commitment and relationships. For many, the encounter also showed how that compatibility is not always determined by attraction, but by how two people interpret the same values.
