Woman notices teen sleeping in her yard for a month - after confronting him, she gets life-changing note at her doorstep
When something strange happens, one’s response is to be careful in their approach rather than go all out in kindness. A woman named Elly Pimentel (@ellayyyyee) shared the peculiar story of a teenager who had been sleeping in her yard. The woman noticed the boy coming back day after day and she had to do something about it. After a month went by, she realized this had to change. However, she didn’t throw the boy out. Instead, she came up with a subtle and kind approach that transformed the teen’s life. Pimentel recalled noticing the boy repeatedly return to her yard. She mentioned that she was often tired but ensured he was respectful about being there. “I’ve never seen the kid do drugs. He just reads, eats his snacks, and rests,” Pimentel noted.
"There was a clear division in my head where I am a person and that is a person, and we are both fending for ourselves in this world," she thought, per PEOPLE. With this in mind, she planned to reach out to the kid. “I’m gonna put a note that says, ‘Hey, this tote with a pillow and blanket is going to be inside,’” Pimentel said. She also mentioned that she would offer a laundry bag for him to put his dirty clothes in so she could wash them. The woman, who is a mom, felt for the boy and proceeded with kindness while keeping her guard up. She added a few cans of soups and other snacks, creating a comfy bag for the boy, along with a touching note.
The woman ensured this wouldn't be a permanent scenario but wanted to extend thoughtfulness and hospitality till she figured out a solution. "I know there's a level of caution that comes with living from moment to moment. I was trying to walk a fine line between making this available to him without any strings attached. I’m doing it because I see you, and if this benefits you, great. If you'd like to improve your situation, here are these things, with no pressure either way,” Pimentel explained.
The boy didn’t show up for a few days but soon, Pimentel found a deeply moving note from him. Thanking her for the items and support, the boy mentioned that his bag was stolen and that she didn’t have other clothing. “A girl gave me a pair of leggings to use as underpants because it gets really cold in the early mornings,” he wrote. He added that he had only one pair of socks, pants and upper garments.

After communicating in notes, the woman met the boy and spoke to him in person. She shared that she heard disturbing things the boy had been through, that she wanted to keep confidential. On listening to his dilemma, the woman immediately got to work by offering him the required resources and getting him all the help he needed. In her most recent update, she shared that she had to involve shelter care and other personnel. The boy ultimately decided not to go ahead with the help. The officials involved ensured he had protection and a place to come by if he ever made the decision. They also handed their phone number to him, should he change his mind.
Pimentel did the best she could for the safety of her family and the boy. Though unable to get him into a home, she has left options for him to go back to, should he ever need it. “I try to have conversations with my children about noticing things and putting themselves in someone else's shoes. Ultimately, I hope that’s what people take away from my experience,” she remarked.
