Woman refused $100 roses from her date, so he had them handed out to other diners — but his reaction to their thanks revealed something unexpected
A great date often includes good conversation and genuine kindness, and the way someone treats others can tell you a lot about who they really are. But for one woman, what started as a casual transition from drinks to dinner in Miami quickly took an uncomfortable turn when her date began treating everyone around him like they were there to do his bidding. Instagram creator Chelsey Opare-Addo, who posts as @itsqueenchelsey, shared a story on October 22, 2026 about dinner with a man she’d just met at a bar in Miami. When he bought a bunch of roses, she declined to accept them. His reaction left her confused, but the realization that hit her later left her baffled.

She had met the man at a bar and agreed to dinner but was quickly put off when he pushed the server to accommodate his requests, then bragged about getting people to do what he wanted. Things got strange when he bought all the roses from a street seller for $100, and when Chelsey denied them, he told the seller to hand them out to other diners for free. But when people thanked him, he barely acknowledged them. When Chelsey asked why, he insisted he hadn’t done it for the gratitude. Later, she realized he had likely been hoping for a big reaction from her, imagining she’d be overwhelmed by his grand gesture and generosity. Instead, she found the whole thing embarrassing and annoying. Chelsey said that it would have been impressive if he had been kind to the waiter and the seller. She ended the video with "You can't impress a woman with money."

What bothered Chelsey even more was how he treated the people serving them. When the waiter said they might not be able to prepare the fish the way he wanted, he snapped, "You don't think, or can you go ask?" He even haggled with the rose seller for a lower price while expecting him to hand out the flowers for free. Chelsey said the man seemed disappointed by how the evening had unfolded. Although he tried to continue their night after dinner, she turned him down, making it clear she had no intention of seeing him again. Looking back, she felt the grand gesture was less about generosity and more about getting the reaction he wanted from her.

Many viewers were just as unimpressed by his behavior. @joy_allure_ wrote, "He is one of those guys that walks in the room and changes the temperature." Meanwhile, @sarinola pointed out the irony of his gesture, commenting, "Imagine haggling for a cheaper price for all the roses but then demanding the free labor of passing them out." @stellarpen2.0 also praised Chelsey’s confidence, writing, "The success in the laugh at the end of the video!"

Grand gestures and boasting about money don’t always leave the impression people hope for. A similar dating disaster happened to TikTok creator Les, whose date spent the evening talking about money, credit scores, and his dream of becoming a millionaire. Things took a turn when he asked what she could “offer” him in exchange for paying for their meal. Les paid her share and left, later saying she’d rather cover her own expenses than deal with that kind of attitude again.
