Woman used a card she knew would decline after her date arrived 40 mins late — his response to the bill made her walk away
Certain behaviors on a first date can leave a person questioning whether they want to meet again. Content creator Myra met a man at a restaurant he had picked near his house. He arrived 40 minutes late, and when the bill arrived, she used a card she knew would be declined, hoping he would take responsibility and pay the bill at least as a courtesy. In a TikTok post shared on September 26, 2026, Myra, who goes by @mf.doomed, explained how the unusual date unfolded.
Myra said the man had texted her that he would be late and told her to order if she was hungry. She chose a small appetizer and waited. After 40 minutes, he arrived but ordered nothing, making the situation a little awkward for the content creator. She also offered him her food, but the whole situation became even more uncomfortable when the bill arrived. His reaction made her decide she was done with the date. When she tried to handle the check and her card declined, he asked, "Do you want to go in your car and see if you have another one?" Myra was put off by his behavior after waiting so long.
When the check arrived, she waited for the man to pick up the tab, but instead he was waiting for her to pay the bill. Basic courtesy can matter on a date, especially when one person has already waited a long time, and the other was the one to suggest the plan and ask them out. Myra was surprised by his behavior because he had been pushing for the date, while she had been unsure about going. After her card failed, he finally said, "You know? I got it this time."
He then handed the waitress some crumpled cash, a sight that immediately gave Myra the ick and made her question his basic manners out in public. She was also visibly shocked because she felt he should have offered to pay without making her look for another card. The date became stranger when the man continued acting interested in seeing her again, despite his actions suggesting otherwise all night. Myra, however, had already made her decision and told him she was going home. His handling of the bill changed how she viewed the evening, and she called it the "worst date of my life."
When it comes to first dates, splitting the bill may be no big deal to some, but a dealbreaker for others. In another incident, a woman named Adriana Solano was surprised when the Ivy League professor she had been talking to for weeks asked her to pay half the bill after inviting her out. He explained that they had received a discount, bringing the total to $50. Although she agreed, the request left her unsure about the evening. She calmly told him, "You don't have to explain yourself. It's okay," when he tried to give a reason for not covering the entire bill. The experience showed how small choices can change someone's view of a date.
