Woman working two jobs laughed at a premium account offer while closing her old bank account — the employee’s words left her fighting back tears
Sometimes, the kindest words come from people who know nothing about your life. Something similar happened when a stranger made Samantha's day on a regular visit to Barclays. In an Instagram video posted on July 27, 2026, creator Samantha, who goes by @samanthaproudmama, shared how a conversation with a bank employee left her fighting back tears.
Samantha explained that she had gone to the bank to close an account. The employee suggested that she was eligible for a premier account with the bank. Samantha laughed and explained that she wasn't actually eligible and was working two jobs. As Samantha was getting ready to leave the bank, the employee stopped her and said, "I know that I'm a stranger, but I'm actually genuinely so proud of you. You are doing so well." She went on to tell Samantha that she had inspired her and added, "I can feel it; you'll be earning enough for premier banking one day. And when you do, come back and open a premier account with me." The unexpected words left her fighting back tears.
The conversation had begun when the employee looked through her details; she first complimented Samantha on looking much younger than her age. A message on the account then suggested she might qualify for the bank's premier banking service. Samantha explained that she wasn't actually eligible because she worked as both a teacher and a content creator, and some months several invoices happened to be paid at once, making her income appear higher than usual. As they continued talking, Samantha also shared her dream of one day buying a home for herself and her young son. That is when the employee offered the encouraging words that stayed with her.
While recounting the adorable exchange through the video, she said she nearly cried and joked that another compliment would have tipped her over the edge. Viewers were moved by the bank employee's kindness. @claudianarder commented, "More free acts of kindness like this, please." Another viewer, @lisamarie.sharman, wrote, "That made me cry, you just telling the story." Meanwhile, @flynn_yolande added, "Oh, how sweet of the bank employee to compliment you. Understand it would have brought me to tears, too. Take care."
A stranger's encouragement is all that it takes sometimes to give you the push you need. In another similar instance, a woman stopped at a bar alone and struck up a conversation with another customer who had seen her earlier that day. After hearing about her hopes of one day finding the right partner, the stranger looked at her and said, "I am so proud of you," assuring her that the love she was waiting for would come. The unexpected kind words moved the woman to tears and stayed with her despite parting ways.
