Online dating can sometimes end as quickly as it begins. A woman named Prachi Percy Sharma, who goes by @thatprachisharma on Threads, shared a short but eye-opening experience from her dating life in a post on April 2, 2026. She matched with a man on Bumble while dating non-monogamously and was open to casual conversation. As soon as she matched, immediately after she opened with a greeting, the very first text he sent left her baffled. Without a second thought, she unmatched with him instantly.

Sharma sent a polite hello, asking how he was doing. Before even sending a greeting, the man responded with an obnoxious text. “Wondering what a 34-year-old woman is doing on Bumble instead of getting married.” He may have meant it as a way of flirting, or as humor, or deliberately meant to offend her. But she didn't wait to decipher the intent behind the text. She immediately unmatched after reading it, ending the conversation. The audacity of the man, a complete stranger, left her stunned. It was just one message that changed everything in seconds and convinced her not to continue the interaction at all.

Irrespective of what her life choices were, the comment was disrespectful and judgmental. In a thread, Sharma revealed that without even knowing much about her, the man decided to pass a ruthless, passive-aggressive remark. She explained how she had planned to date non-monogamously and was only looking to meet interesting people, but the message reduced her identity to an unruly stereotype. "I have decided not to get married and am not looking for it," she emphasized. Sadly, many women still face judgment for being single in their thirties, even when they are happy and confident in their choices. This often reflects that societal pressure is still adamant and cruel for many.

Many people still face judgment for their relationship status despite changing social trends. A University of Missouri study found that despite the increasing number of women choosing to remain single, many in their mid-30s still faced pressure and negativity for not being married. When it comes to dating online, respect for others is a basic necessity, not an optional trait in a profile. In another similar incident, a woman matched with a 32-year-old man whose profile suggested he respected women and was a supporter of human rights, which made her hopeful at first. The situation changed quickly when his first message was simply, “Come over,” sent late at night. She was taken aback and later said, “I have never spoken to this man, I don’t know this man,” pointing out how uncomfortable it felt. She chose to unmatch soon after. The experience showed how actions can differ from what profiles claim, and why caution is often necessary.
