Athlete broke a record then ran over to her boyfriend in the stands — her priceless question left him in tears
The Olympic games have been a refreshing spectacle over the past few weeks. Apart from excelling in their respective sport, several athletes have made other blissful memories too. The list is long but it is topped by majestic moments like athletes carrying out gender reveals and proposing to their special someone. French athlete Alice Finot, too, took one step ahead with her partner and proposed to him soon after her phenomenal performance, per TODAY. Finot had participated in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase event with 14 other athletes.
Though she didn’t win a medal, as a first-time Olympian she did break the European steeplechase record with a time of 8:58.67. Her way of celebrating has gone viral after she met with her partner and in a heartwarming way proposed to him. @TansuYegen shared a glimpse of the duo in a completely romantic reunion as soon as Finot finished her performance. She met with her boyfriend in the stands where he was seated with several fans. The athlete then immediately pulled out a box and went down on a knee, surprising the man. She then proposed to him and it was all smiles.
The adorable couple then shared a warm and long hug followed by a sweet kiss, leaving spectators applauding and cheering loudest. The unusual part is that the athlete chose a pin or badge to propose with instead of a ring. Finot pinned the badge to his t-shirt. Explaining the reason behind the same in an interview with Metro, she said, “I told myself that if I ran under nine minutes, knowing that nine is my lucky number and that we’ve been together for nine years, then I would propose. I don’t like doing things like everyone else. Since he hadn’t done it yet, I told myself that maybe it was up to me to do it. So, I gave a pin that I ran with to my boyfriend. On it, it says: ‘Love is in Paris,’” she explained.
Adding more about her partner, the athlete mentioned that he was as good a backbone to her throughout her preparation and performance at the Olympics. She said, “He’s the one who always gives me strength and if I managed to get under nine minutes, that meant a lot.” Though Finot didn’t get a medal that day, she won in life. Moreover, she pointed out that she was happy with her performance. She said, “I really had a blast, I managed to express myself. It was just a tiny bit (that was) missing to get a medal, I’m sorry. But I don’t regret anything.”
