Dad makes under-the-table-deal at Pokémon card trading fair just to watch his son smile
As parents, we go above and beyond to give the best to our children. Sometimes, that might look like doing the most absurd or illogical things just to see our kids smile. That’s what one dad named Matt did for his son. In a post shared by Brian (@brianong) on TikTok, a perfect encapsulation of the love of a dad was displayed. The man had attended a sale with his son, an avid fan of Pokémon, and wanted to ensure he had the experience of a lifetime. He met Brian, one of the staff at the counters and made an unreal request that caught the man off guard. However, when he gave in and went with the flow, he was moved by the result.
The dad approached Brian, who was overseeing a counter with graded Pokémon cards. After introducing himself, he calmly explained that his son loves only “energy cards.” “You won’t find any of those here, so I got some with me,” he explained to Brian. The man was caught off guard, unsure what to expect next out of the conversation. Then, Matt made a request — “Can you maybe put these on your case and let him walk up and do a deal with you or something?” Brian was confused but obliged. Since the dad noted that it would “make his day,” the man agreed to put up a play. He practiced with the dad before the little boy arrived.
When the kid arrived with his family, Brian played it cool, as if he knew nothing. As soon as the curious little guy walked to the case, he spotted the energy cards and yelled, “He has it, he has it!” Brian got into his role and asked the kid if he was into energies. As he excitedly waited, the man then made the offer. “You guys want it?” “Yeah, how much?” Matt asked. Brian replied, “Oh, it’s just to fill up the dead space,” adding that they could have it for free. The little kid’s eyes started to light up and his excitement kept growing. When his dad asked him if he wanted them, he happily said, “Yeah!”
Brian then took the cards out and let the boy hold them; his feelings were surreal. He held on tight to the cards before his smile grew wider than ever. After thanking the man for his offer, the boy did a little excited dance. Matt shook his hand with Brian, saying thank you, but only the two of them knew that the gratitude was for far more than just getting the cards; it was for creating an experience of a lifetime. Brian had no idea the cards meant that much to the kid. After seeing his reaction, he couldn’t help but smile widely. “Chills, that gave me chills,” he said. In his caption, he added, “Poke-dad of the year, so glad I could help.” @rayroman88 said, “Best dad ever.” @q_shawn_11 added, “Best dad ever and you are awesome for playing along and making the kid’s day.” @justintyme314 remarked, “Core memory created.”
