First-grader found a ‘diamond’ while playing in the yard—his plans for it took his mom by surprise
Children might find the most interesting things while playing outside. They could also surprise adults with their imagination. A first-grader surprised his mom when he found a "diamond" in their backyard. He had a special request from his mom after he showed her his find. So the mom hoped to get an answer from Reddit, where she goes by u/mrschester. The incident completely won over the internet and warmed people's hearts with his innocence.
"My first grader thinks he found a diamond in the backyard, one worth enough to buy a Jurassic Park toy at Target. What is it?" the mom shared, with two photos of the rock the boy had found. The mom explained that she was leaving the value of the rock for the internet to decide. In one of the comments, the mom from rural Massachusetts shared that her son wanted to be a paleontologist when he grew up and this would be a "thrilling first line on his resume." In another comment, the woman explained, "An overwhelming majority of you say its value matches a Jurassic World toy. I'll follow up once it’s cashed in. I told him the verdict and he (pretend) fainted."
She added, "I will definitely take him to a local college! I collected shells as a kid and filled up jars. I’ll give him a jar to do the same with cool rocks." The mom ended up giving a $20 bill to her son in exchange for the rock. She was also surprised by what her son did with the money. "I offered him $20 and the deal was done. Turns out, you can get two Nerf guns for the price of one dinosaur. He opted for that and gave one to his little brother. Money well spent!" About the photo, she went on, "I have this one in my pocket right now and will put it in his box of special stuff along with a printout of this post, as someone suggested!" People shared their thoughts on the incident in the comments section of the thread.
u/JubileeSailr wrote, "I saved many of the rocks my son brought me. When he was much older and no longer bringing me rocks, I put them in a rock garden tray as decor for his more grown-up room next to some plants by his window. He was surprised I kept them." u/BigDogSoulDoc commented, "It is an opportunity for you to be an ultra super hero to your child and give them a core memory they will never forget. Congratulate them, buy the toy and put that thing in a safe place with a note describing the experience. When your child has a child of their own, give them the rock and the note back."
u/BruschettiFreddy remarked, "Trust me, he's got something good. As a former child who collected rocks, that one has got some serious value. Unfortunately, Target doesn't yet accept shiny rocks, but you should trade him some cash for his priceless possession. You'd be stupid not to." u/lilian_2022 shared, "Almost looks like obsidian, but the rough texture is making me think twice about it. Either way, in my professional opinion, it's definitely worth a Jurassic Park toy."
