Kevin Bacon went undercover as a regular person with prosthetics. By the end of the day, he made a mind-boggling discovery

Many of us wonder what it might be like to have the life of a celebrity, enjoying the paparazzi, designer clothing and a luxurious lifestyle. As the grass always seems greener on the other side, sometimes, even celebrities wonder what it’s like to be a layperson. Kevin Bacon took his curiosity one step further by putting on prosthetics and a fake disguise to become a regular citizen, The Guardian reported. As he experienced anonymity, casual and moderate living and the common man’s lifestyle, he was pushed to make a realization. Apart from the expectations he had in mind, he was stunned to learn something even more surreal.

The “Footloose” actor wanted to take a firsthand glimpse into the life of a common man. He got a makeup artist to give him a makeover that made him completely unrecognizable. “I went to a special effects makeup artist, had consultations and asked him to make me a prosthetic disguise,” he explained. He got a fake nose, fake teeth and even glasses. With the freedom to go out into the streets in casual clothing, without cameras flashing, he made his way. He went about doing most of the things a regular person would do, like grabbing a cup of coffee, waiting in line for it and so on.

While he was initially enjoying the peace of being by himself, he soon made an astonishing discovery. What felt like peace only lasted for a few moments and it quickly started to feel demeaning. “People were kind of pushing past me, not being nice,” Bacon first noted. He was just another man who the world didn’t seem to have time or patience for. He had to buckle up and go by the pace of every other civilian and it didn’t feel great. “Nobody said, ‘I love you.’ I had to wait in line to buy a f**king coffee or whatever,” he remarked. The actor soon realized that his hard-earned fame brought him so much love and respect, which, sadly, was not a regular thing for many common people.

He immediately wanted to go back to his own life. “I was like, ‘This sucks. I want to go back to being famous,'” Bacon remarked. Speaking to Vanity Fair, the actor soon began to feel grateful for all that he had earned with his career. “I honestly feel very grateful for where I happen to be,” he said, adding that he was glad to have a packed schedule and everything. When he attended the Graham Norton Show, he discussed his whole experiment. He mentioned how his first thought was to go to a Los Angeles mall, The Grove, where it’s impossible to walk through if you’re a celebrity. However, when he went there as a layman, it seemed bleak and disrespectful, almost as if he were a nobody.
“Being recognizable is 99.9% good because people are nice to you for absolutely no reason," the actor remarked. He recalled how people would randomly yell “I love you” while he was walking down the streets and it felt good. “Who doesn’t want to be loved?” he added.
