Pregnant woman didn't have time to reach the hospital in time — so her mom and sister stopped on the freeway and did the unthinkable
A person might have to be prepared to take the right course of action in an emergency situation. However, one grandma hadn't thought that she would end up delivering her grandchild on a freeway. The grandma, Susan Sisler, had rushed to take her pregnant daughter to the hospital after she started experiencing cramps in the middle of the night. However, none of them knew that the baby would be born way before the family reached the hospital, per KTLA 5.
The pregnant mom of two, Alyssa, started experiencing cramps in the middle of the night. She immediately knew that she was going into labor. However, there was no one at home to take her to the hospital at that time. So Alyssa called her mom and explained that she was having cramps and needed a ride to the hospital as soon as possible. Susan immediately left for Alyssa's house with her husband and her daughter, Jessica, after receiving the call. Soon after, Jessica and Susan helped Alyssa inside the truck to take her to the hospital as fast as possible. While Susan's husband stayed back at Alyssa's Canyon Lake house to be with her two other kids.
All of them thought that they were going to make it to the hospital before the baby's birth. But Alyssa knew that she needed help in the middle of a freeway. Her mom immediately pulled over to help her. "We were on the 215 when she started screaming, 'Mom, pull over! His head's coming out!'" Susan recounted. The baby was ready to be born and they were a little while away from the hospital. "We had about 15 minutes left," Jessica went on. The grandma pulled over at the side of the freeway at around 2:30 AM in the night. She knew that she had no other option but to help her daughter deliver the baby right where they were at that time.
Susan took a blanket and rushed to help her daughter deliver the baby. Jessica could see the baby's head the moment Susan brought the blanket out. "I got the blanket around her and then my daughter says, 'Oh my gosh, I see the head.'" Susan added, "That's when I said, 'Get out of the way' and I put my hands down under her and helped guide the baby out. I delivered him." Ambulance and first responders from the Riverside Fire Department had been called for help and arrived just moments after the baby was born, per ABC 7 News. The grandmother was still in disbelief over what she had managed to do, per KTLA 5.
"It's so amazing. I'm shaking. I feel like I'm going to pass out — just excited and overjoyed," Susan continued. The baby was named Jackson Garrett and was doing quite well after his unexpected birth. His dad arrived at the scene with the ambulance and held him wrapped in a cloth at the back of the vehicle. Both the mom and the baby were taken to the hospital and checked over by the medical staff. Both of them were in good health and completely stable.
