She created a catfish account after her boyfriend claimed he’d deleted the dating app — his excuse after taking the bait left her baffled
Finding out someone you're dating might still be on dating apps can leave you questioning whether you can trust them. Lana, who posts on Threads as @ghxstfacee, shared on October 19, 2026, how she suspected her boyfriend wasn't being honest after a friend spotted his profile on a dating app. When she confronted him, he claimed the account was old, and he no longer used the app. Lana decided to test his explanation herself, and what she found made it hard for her to believe his story.
Lana said she decided to act as if she believed him, but she wasn't about to let it slide. She wrote, "Call me crazy (I like to have proof of things, okay)," explaining that she made a fake account on the same dating app to see if he'd take the bait. As she suspected, it took him less than a day to message her fake profile. But even with the proof right in front of him, he wouldn't own up to it. Instead, he claimed he was "just on there looking for friends and advice." His excuse baffled Lana, and she clearly wasn't buying it and ended up dumping him.

But that wasn't the end of it. After she blocked him, her ex made almost 10 Facebook accounts, texted her using his mom's phone, and even called her at work. Lana couldn't help but wonder why he'd put so much effort into winning her back when he could have simply been faithful while they were dating.

Many people related to Lana's story and even shared their own experiences in the comments. Threads user @transient_tartarian said, "I’ve literally deleted multiple Bumble accounts, but they're still one on there, a Hinge one too apparently..." @strobelsaurus commented, "Some men are truly damaged beyond repair. A lot of them, actually." Others seemed to recognize Lana's experience all too well. An individual named @courtneymichelly called it a “Canon event. Mine happened like 10 years ago, but it's like... a rite of passage."

Finding your partner on a dating app is bad enough, but finding out they'd been hiding even more than you thought is a whole other story. For another woman named Katelyn, finding her boyfriend on a dating app was only the beginning of a much stranger discovery. She checked her partner's phone and found messages with other women on a dating app. But when she opened his profile, she spotted something she never expected. He was using a woman's picture on a lesbian dating app called Her. "Not only are you texting other girls, but you're going to pretend to be one too," she said. Katelyn was left questioning her partner's honesty.
