She was flattered when the ‘charming’ guy asked for a second date — until one comment about a stranger at the restaurant set off alarms
Just because a first date feels smooth and fun doesn’t mean you’ve truly seen who someone is. A Reddit user who goes by u/hna2 went on a first date with a fitness influencer who lived in the same city as her. She then received an unexpected text from him the following day. While she initially felt flattered when he asked her out on a second date, telling her how mesmerized he was by her, one comment about a stranger next to them at the restaurant made her squirm and end it once and for all. Sharing the screenshots of their chat on April 4, 2025, the woman revealed she felt uncomfortable reading his messages.
"I found him attractive and charming, so I said yes," she revealed. While their first date went well, she soon received messages from him the next day, which flattered her at first. In the screenshots of their conversation, he told her that she felt "different" to him. "You've got presence. Real presence." While the Reddit user appreciated his compliments, he took it a bit far by saying something that caught her off guard. He told her that he liked her a lot and was planning their second date. He told her that he was not happy about the "idea of other guys thinking they have a shot" with her. He then informed her that a man who sat at the other table beside them had been glancing at her, which bothered him.
The Reddit user, who felt creeped out by the message, called his reaction weird. "You're the kind of woman who causes problems without even trying. I like that, but it also means I need to keep close...I don't like distractions," he wrote. He further informed her that he was looking for "exclusivity" and that he did not want to stay if she was "exploring" options. He also offended her by mentioning her ex, saying, "Let me guess, your ex, 'let you do whatever' and then got mad when you stopped caring?" The Reddit user, who grew extremely uncomfortable with his tone, asked him not to bring up her ex.
Her message irked him, and he complained to her that despite giving her attention, she chose to push him away. She stopped talking to him after that, informing him that she was not ready to proceed with this arrangement further. However, the man's ego got hurt as he sent her, "Unreal, I hope the next guy you give your time to knows what he's getting. He won't see you as I did, but go ahead. Play it safe." Internet users who were equally creeped out by his texts were happy for the Reddit user for dodging a bullet.

That just reeks of 'I own you' energy. Reading all this really made me gag." u/HeckNasty1 wrote, "In what world did he see that working? I mean, I had a good feeling about my wife on our first date, but I didn’t tell her I was gonna brick her in my basement or weird s*** like this dude said."
