Struggling mom approaches noisy teens at hotel — then discovers money with a kind note under her door a few hours later
Our actions and even reactions to a situation, good or bad, have the power to change the result. A mom named Randi Jo Amt was frustrated when teen students in the adjoining hotel room were noisy, WRTV reported. The family had moved into a hotel room due to flooding in their home and the noise and disturbance were adding to the distress. The FFA (Future Farmers of America) students were confronted by the mom and when they realized her plight, they had a heartwarming response. The mom was surprised to find a note with money at her door and it gave her hope that she never knew she needed.
A broken toilet forced the family to move to a hotel for a few nights. It had been a long day and one can imagine how burdening the dilemma of moving might have felt. After practices, activities and whatnot with the kids, the mom was finally able to put them to bed. To her misfortune, the students next door made loud noises, just being themselves and enjoying, not realizing that they were adding to Randi’s struggles. Sharing in a Facebook post, the mom expressed her disappointment, per AG Daily. “I was frustrated but wanted to wait to talk to them when I could tell them about our situation to see if they could show compassion rather than become angry at the lady next door,” she shared.
The mom soon realized that the kids were from the FFA and when she saw their door open, she approached them and shared her concern. "I let them know about our house being destroyed by water. I told them we wanted them to have their fun and we would appreciate their respect to let our kids get a good rest,” Randi recalled. Both parties were respectful and mature in the conversation and the mom left after they apologized. She wasn’t expecting anything else, maybe just that they’d keep it down. However, the teenagers had more in store. Before she could go to bed, the woman saw $40 and a note lying near her door, per WTHR.
The note read, “We are more than sorry for waking you and your family up the past few nights. We hope everything goes well with your house.” Randi was touched by the thoughtfulness the youngsters offered. The story came to a full circle when Randi and her kids met two other strangers from the FFA. Having been at a convention, each of them had received a “Pay it forward” card and when the mom recounted the teenager’s kindness, she knew it was now her turn. She is planning to raise money via donations to help purchase essentials for the homeless.
What started as a disturbance and annoyance turned out to be a hopeful experience that the family will cherish for a long time to come. Randi noted that the teenagers “restored my faith that the next generation can make eye contact and show compassion to the person right in front of them. They set an excellent example for my children and their parents should be more than proud.”
