Tenant texted her landlord about a strange late-night noise that kept waking her — his message two days later made it hard to stay annoyed

The woman was annoyed by the noise but didn't want to make an issue of it until it started waking her from sleep.

Late-night noise can be frustrating, especially when it keeps waking you up. But for one tenant, a strange noise coming from her landlord's place turned into a surprisingly wholesome story. Threads user Hayley Imbler, who posts as @hayimbler, shared the experience on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, explaining how she finally texted her landlord about the noise. To her surprise, she received a message two days later that completely changed how she felt about it.

Imbler shared that the noise had been bothering her for weeks because it happened at completely random times, sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the evening, and occasionally in the middle of the night. One night, the sound woke her around 3 a.m. She finally decided to confront the landlord and sent him a polite text explaining that she wasn't sure what appliance he was using, but the noise carried into her bedroom and had woken her several times. He replied simply, "Copy that. Thanks." Two days later, Imbler got another message from him that immediately made her laugh. He asked whether she'd heard any noise the previous night and explained, "That is my snow cone maker! I moved it to the garage."

Her 74-year-old landlord had apparently been making himself snow cones late at night after working long hours. Imbler said she had initially wondered what appliance was making the noise because its timing made no sense. It could happen at almost any hour, and she especially noticed it from her bedroom. She said she was annoyed but didn't want to make an issue of it until it started waking her from sleep.

After getting the message about the snow cone maker, she said that "any trace of ire" had disappeared. The thought of her 74-year-old landlord, who is around 5'3", making himself a snow cone as a late-night treat was simply too funny for her to stay annoyed. She later saw him using the machine near the garage and said hello. That's when he gave the story an even sweeter ending. He told her that if she ever wanted a snow cone, he'd be happy to make one for her.

The comments were full of people amused by the wholesome twist. @carrie10022 wrote, "Oh. You have to get him a cool snow cone syrup for the holidays." @melissaroantreelove remarked, “This is impossibly cute." @nelliegirl3 added, "I was thinking ice cream, like the Creami machine; it probably could wake the dead."

Sometimes, the noise that annoys you is coming from a situation you know nothing about. A similar story involved Instagram user Heidi, who kept hearing what sounded like heavy objects dropping from her upstairs neighbor's apartment. She was annoyed at first, but when she saw the 80-year-old woman struggling with a recycling bag, she burst into tears. Her elderly neighbor had Parkinson's. The noise wasn't from careless behavior; it was the sound of her walker as she moved around. When the woman asked, “Am I too loud for you?” Heidi assured her that the noise wasn't bothering her and later began checking on her daily.
