Getting a ride home after a late night should feel simple, even when the roads are quiet and unfamiliar. For Amanda Nicol and her friend, however, a trip after a party around 3 a.m. instantly became unsettling. Their Uber driver took an unusually long time to reach them and kept changing direction on the way. Amanda shared the experience on TikTok on July 14, 2026, through her account @chsamanda, explaining how the situation became more worrying after they finally got into the vehicle. Then, one look at the gas meter made them realize something was seriously wrong.

The driver first said he was coming, but his route kept changing. Amanda called him twice because the map showed him moving away instead of getting closer. When he finally arrived, the women climbed into the back of his pickup truck and realized they could not open the doors from inside. Then she noticed the gas light was on, showing only 10 miles left until empty, while their destination was about 20 miles away. She asked what his plan was, but he did not respond and continued driving deeper into the dark area. In that moment, they knew they had to find a chance to leave.

Instead of returning to the paved road, the driver took them along a dirt path through the field. He claimed he knew another way out and asked them to trust him, but soon they reached a locked gate. He admitted he was lost and began driving across the grass near what appeared to be a large property. Amanda and her friend became increasingly frightened as they moved farther from the road. When they noticed a security trailer, they asked to be let out so they could seek help. The driver agreed, and they immediately decided not to return to the truck.

They approached the security trailer, but no one answered despite the lights and screens being on. The women then canceled the ride through the app and hid inside a partly open shipping container nearby. The driver stayed nearby with the truck running and slowly drove around the property. Soon, a security vehicle appeared, and Amanda quickly ran toward the guard to explain what had happened. The guard then stayed with the women until another Uber arrived. They then finally reached their hotel around 5 a.m. Looking back, the content creator said, "I have never had a bad interaction like that with anybody in Uber," showing how unusual the experience was.

At times, a simple cab ride can also take an unexpectedly scary turn. In another similar incident, two friends found themselves worried when their Uber driver refused to stop despite their requests to get out. They asked to be dropped off at a nearby gas station and even offered extra money, but he continued driving. As the situation became more tense, they checked the doors and quietly planned their escape. When the car neared the station, they jumped out together. Afterward, a security guard helped them, and they reported the incident to both the police and Uber.
