Woman matched with man but he refused to FaceTime her for a week — when he finally did, she discovered the ‘wild’ truth
Modern dating moves quickly, with people matching on apps and rapidly getting to know each other through texts, phone calls, and video chats. However, these connections can sometimes lead to unexpected and complicated situations. A Threads user, Sharon Youngblood (@sharonyoungblood), shared her experience of matching with someone who kept avoiding FaceTime calls for an entire week by giving different excuses. But when the woman finally got a chance to interact with him on a video call, she was left stunned after discovering a “wild” truth. Sharing on March 8, 2026, the woman revealed how the visual spoke for itself, and she didn't need him to speak to learn the reality.
The woman explained that she had met a man on a dating app. His profile said he was the "General Manager at the Hyatt.” She had already shared her contact number with him, yet he gave different reasons and avoided FaceTime for a week. He continued texting her on the app, but she was adamant about taking things forward and wanted to see him. Ultimately, he said he had an Android so he couldn't FaceTime and also declined the idea of WhatsApp, saying he uses “Google Chat," referring to Google Meet. When he texted saying he was on break at work, she sent him a video call link. To her surprise, when the call connected, she saw him sitting on a curb outside with sirens blaring in the background, making her realize he was “clearly unhoused."
“Looks like he hasn’t shaved or had a haircut in months, graphic tee with food stains on it,” the woman revealed. All the signs clearly gave away that he was not doing well, much less a "general manager." The woman was shocked and pondered, “On break, you say?” What surprised the woman was that he had the audacity to lie about his position and then continue to chase her when she refused to reply. “Oh, you’re just not going to respond?” he asked her during a previous conversation. The woman made it clear that she found it hard to take him seriously since he had her number for a week but never made an effort beyond messaging through the app. It was likely easier for the man to maintain appearances through texts, while a video call would have forced him to explain his situation.
The post drew interesting reactions from the users. @missme_withda_bs wrote, “It’s also the fact that he didn’t bow out, but instead took a gamble that you would accept him how he was and clicked the link. The audacity.” Sharon responded, saying it was "wild," and that the truth would have surfaced one way or another. Another user, @2infinityandbree_ond, wrote, “Being on a dating app when your mail gets forwarded to a park bench is wild. Like sir, you have bigger fish to fry!” @karmarocks80 remarked, "I expected him to be married, but I was wrong. Actively dating for a home is crazy work." Just another incident to caution people not to trust the internet freely without doing their own fact-checks.
