Seeing acts of kindness being paid forward in real life is truly impactful. Dana, who goes by @danahealthyliving, shared a video on Instagram on October 24, 2026, about a trip to Trader Joe’s that turned into a surprisingly emotional moment. When a starving man asked if she could buy his $25 worth of groceries, she agreed without hesitation. When the store manager asked if she was trying to help him, she agreed, and the next thing the manager did for her kind gesture left her emotional.

Dana explained that the man approached her while she was shopping at Trader Joe’s and asked if she could buy his groceries. He only had $25 worth of items, and she agreed, telling him to wait until she finished shopping. At checkout, she even asked if he wanted to add anything else. The store manager approached and told the man Dana didn’t have to pay, but she went ahead with it anyway. When the man thanked her and said, "I was starving," Dana was overcome with emotion. The manager later apologized in case he had made Dana feel uncomfortable. But she assured him she was happy to help because "some people need help." But then came an unexpected surprise. The manager returned with a bouquet of flowers to thank her for her kindness. Dana said she started crying, touched that someone had taken the time to recognize her small act of kindness.

She remembered when someone once paid for her groceries after her card wouldn’t go through, and a manager had advised her to pass that kindness on someday. This time, she was able to be that person for someone else. The manager also told her the man had been asking other shoppers to pay for his groceries, and several had said no. Knowing he’d kept asking because he needed to eat made the moment hit even harder. Dana said the experience reminded her how much a small act of kindness can mean to someone who is struggling.

She also wanted others to remember that people asking for help might genuinely be struggling, even if they’re strangers. She said, "If someone approaches you and asks you for help, try to help them even a little bit, even if you can't." Sharing and spreading kindness always go the long way. Even telling her story pushed many of her viewers to do the same for others.

One viewer, @flrealtor_joannalbrowning, wrote, "YESSSSSS, do good always!!! Thank you for being so sweet & kind." Another user, @balancedcanineacademy, commented, “This is beautiful; I’m going to do the exact same next time I have the opportunity." Meanwhile, @beverlykoblick summed up the sentiment, writing, “Beautiful. You make the world a kinder place."

Small acts of kindness can make a huge difference when someone is struggling to afford even the basics. In another story, a woman, Emily, noticed a father and his young daughter struggling to pay for their groceries. Seeing they had only a few items, including strawberries, bananas, and whipped cream, she stepped in and told the cashier, "I’m going to pay for that." The father was stunned and kept thanking her. The gesture was personal for Emily, too, as she remembered growing up when money was tight, and her family sometimes relied on food banks. Now, she was grateful to be in a position to help someone else. As she put it, "Be good to people; you never know what they are going through."
