Woman’s fancy date was planned like a puzzle she had to figure out — the photo he sent the next morning was the final straw
One bad date can leave you wondering what exactly you just signed yourself up for. That’s precisely how Kamrin White depicts her New York date, which involved a private driver, drink at Nobu where she briefly thought she had been stood up, and a string of cryptic notes that made the experience less romantic than baffling. Recalling her absurd experience on TikTok under @keepingupwkamw, on September 17, 2026, she said her date, a guy working in finance, had designed the entire evening around a mystery she was expected to solve. However, a message waiting for her the next morning finally made her decide she was done playing along.
A private driver picked her up and took her to Nobu, where she expected to meet her date for dinner. Instead, she was left there alone, with her date paying the bill and telling her in a note that he would meet her at the next location. From there, the driver took her to another restaurant, where she finally met him, before the pair later went to a small, tucked-away lounge with a magic show. But the next morning, he sent her a photo of the Mona Lisa and told her to “interpret this,” when she decided that type of intense, puzzling dating wasn't for her.
Going by her account, the date started with a seemingly impressive gesture, albeit a little patronizing. The man sent his driver to pick her up. When she got into the car, she was handed a note. She opened it expecting something sweet. Instead, the first line read: “Yes, she’s pretty, but can she follow directions?” She was immediately thrown off. The note instructed her not to text him until she reached the destination. Eventually, the car pulled up to Nobu, and he wasn’t there.
Then the waitress came over to tell her that the man had already paid for the entire bill and that she could order whatever she wanted, including a drink. He would meet her at the next location. In another note, he told her to get whatever drink she wanted and enjoy herself because he would not be joining her at Nobu. He also apparently wanted her to know that this was not some ordinary date.
During the second half of the evening, when he was finally present, they went to the magic show, which was one of the few parts of the date that she described as feeling normal. Then she got cold, prompting him to ask the waitress for a jacket. When he handed it to her, he said he was sure she was not used to men who could solve such problems. After a night involving a private driver, a solo stop at Nobu, multiple notes, a magic show, and a puzzle she never asked to solve, the Mona Lisa was the final clue she had no interest in following.
The biggest takeaway from a bad first date is simply that there will not be a second one. Earlier, TikTok creator Carrington had also described a disastrous first date. The man was supposed to arrive around 7:45 p.m. -8 p.m. but showed up close to 8:30 pm, so she ordered two drinks while waiting. The date otherwise seemed to go fairly well, and he had said he would take care of the bill. But when she returned from the restroom, the waitress handed her the payment terminal for the drinks she had ordered before he arrived. The man had only paid for his own portion, despite previously implying he would cover the bill. Carrington left and blocked him immediately.
