4th grade teacher was heartbroken after transfer — then her old class students rushed to management with a remarkable proposal

Quite a few teachers form a special bond with their students. So it can be a bittersweet feeling for them when the year-end arrives. One teacher who was getting promoted to a higher grade was going through a hard time, as she wouldn't get to teach her fourth-grade class the next year. She had been very involved with the children, and the kids could share everything with her. However, when the woman shared the news with the class, she got an unexpected reaction from them, per a Reddit post by the teacher, u/No_Caregiver8109.

"I’ll be moving to a new grade this year and while I’m excited for the challenge, I’m also a little heartbroken," the teacher wrote. "This was my second year teaching 4th grade and I truly bonded with my students in a way I never expected. I made it my mission to really see them and to learn who they are beyond the classroom. And they let me in." She realized that students really let a person in when they are seen for who they are and beyond their behavior and past. The teacher felt honored that her class respected her and allowed her to teach to the best of her ability. The class faced ups and downs throughout the year, learned from their mistakes, and kept moving forward.

"Some of the students and I connected over anime, others performed K-pop songs in front of the class. I had gamers who proudly showed me their Roblox gardens." Many students talked about their dreams and aspirations. The teacher was always there to listen to them and validate their feelings and opinions. "And now… I’m being moved to 5th grade. But I won’t be getting my old class." The woman was quite emotional and tried to hold herself back as she gave the news to her class. But her students told her, "We’ll just go to the office and ask them to put us in your class." She humored them, but didn't think that the kids would actually go ahead and do just that.
"They listed off the reasons why I was the best teacher and every reason was backed up by evidence. My students touched me so much." She added, "As a teacher, I put a lot of effort into learning activities, class decor and how I teach, ensuring that I cater to the needs of my students. I try to make learning fun while also ensuring that the educational targets are met. I want my students to be happy and eager to learn when they’re at school." Her students made her feel that she had done a good job and gave her hope for the future. "Teaching is such a difficult profession and as someone who works so hard with little pay, I always feel so demotivated when people bash the job, knowing I work so hard. As the new school year approaches, I am hopeful, but I just felt a little sad and sentimental thinking about my old kiddies."

Many people appreciated the teacher and her work and shared their own experiences in the comments section of the video. u/Correct_Advantage_20 wrote, "Continue to engage and inspire with every new class. You’re obviously doing something right." u/Main-Indication-8832 commented, "Reading your story makes me reminisce on the few teachers I had through my life who impacted me so strongly with genuine care, that I still remember it decades later. I can tell you are that type of teacher. Whatever happens, keep spreading the light!" u/sesamesnapsinhalf remarked, "I still remember the exceptional elementary school teachers decades later. They made an impact on my life. I’ve actually gone back and told them so."
