Mom bought a used car for son and it stopped working in 4 months—then the car dealership made unexpected move
When it comes to serving customers, it is not just a job but a relationship to build. JP (@jpthecarguy21), a salesperson at Northtowne Auto Group in Gladstone, Missouri, knew how important it is to forge these relationships when caring for customers, Motor 1 reported. The man shared a heartwarming story about a mom who bought a second-hand car for her son from their dealership. Unfortunately, the vehicle stopped working within a short span of four months. The concerned mom brought up the issue with JP and his response is winning hearts.
Sharing on TikTok, the man revealed the specifics of the vehicle. It was a “2017 Tucson Ultimate all-wheel-drive, 85,000 miles on it, roughly,” JP noted. He added that he’d sold the car for $12,500 to a mom who wanted to give her son a vehicle so he could make the drive to college. The model was purchased in June and a few months later, it stopped working. When the mom called to check with the company, they had it towed to figure out what was wrong. The motor had given out. When JP checked their warranty status, he learned that the mom hadn’t really taken the best options.
“So we’ve got nothing. They bought the car with a 30-day, thousand-mile warranty on it,” the dealer said. There’s a very evident way this situation could have been handled but it would have left the mom in a miserable position. Despite not having the extended warranty, the salesperson decided to “take care of the customer.” “When I find the right car for her, we’ll give her her money back and put her in the new car. A different car for the same money. If they wanna spend a little bit more money, they can. Whatever they’d like to do,” he revealed. The man was determined to step in and help the mom out. Leaving her on her own because of a policy was nowhere on the cards.
JP went beyond profit and business; he focused on integrity and service and said that it was the only way to go about it. “That’s what we’re supposed to do in this world: take care of people. She only put 2,000 miles on the car. Yeah, she signed a 30-day, thousand-mile warranty,” he added. The salesperson said it would have been easier to “be like every 'a***ole' dealership in the United States and say, 'Well, too bad, you own it.’” However, having been in the business for years, he knew he was better than that and knew business also meant taking care of one’s customers. "32 years in the business. Just what we do," he said.
People respected the man’s kindness and professionalism, which was customer-oriented. @vern1992aquarius said, “This is amazing, brother. I’ll be coming to you for my next car just because of this.” @serenity1997 added, “Every dealership and businessperson needs to take humanitarian notes from you.” @ericsorenson5 wrote, “This was a no-win situation. The only way not to lose is this. Good on you.” @darkvirgo88 remarked, “This is the first time I’ve heard a salesperson do business the right way. I shed a tear.”
