Teacher was curious when student 'innocently talked about food'—his one revelation left her ugly crying at work

Many teachers go above and beyond their duties to ensure that their students are happy and fulfilled. So when a teacher heard a student's question about food, she did everything in her power to ensure that the kid was okay. The woman, Brooke Goins, shared that she was left in tears after she heard what the kid said. She cried right in front of the class before she shared a message with her group of teachers, per a Facebook post by Goins.

"Today I cried for a child, a child who so innocently talked about food and the lack of it," Goins wrote. The child asked when the lady who put food in his backpack was coming back. Goins was stunned as the kid was asking about the school's guidance counselor, and she didn't know what help he needed from her. "I told him I wasn’t sure about this week since it is a short week. He told me he was out of it at home and needed more." The teacher asked what the boy liked in the bag, the macaroni bowls, or the crackers. The boy said no. "I asked if it was the spaghetti o’s, he laughed and told me no, that they didn’t have those." The boy eventually told her, "Those little o's (as he made a small circle with his hand), we don’t have those at my house, but when I do have them, they give me a warm belly and help me sleep."

Goins started crying in front of the 20 students in her class. "No kid should ever be hungry, ever." She immediately sent a text to her group of teachers about the situation. "Remember, hearing people say that we spend all of our money in our classrooms? We spend it to make sure that our kids have what they need to succeed and today we bought food." All of the teachers put money in and bought the kid spaghetti o's so the kid would not go hungry. "I want people to know that teachers are humans, we love your kids and want the very best for them," Goins expressed.
"Today I’m thankful for all of my people at school, big and little. It takes a village, it really does. It’s a crazy rollercoaster of emotions being a teacher, but today it was worth every tear that fell to see him light up when that bag was put into his backpack!" the teacher went on. "Teachers, keep your heads up. You are making a difference! We are all exhausted, but we push forward each and every day." Goins shared that she appreciated all the help people offered her and all the love they sent her way. But at the same time, she reassured people that the kid had enough to get by for the next few weeks, including the fall break. "Our principal also made sure to let me know that if he needed anything from the snack closet at school, I could go in and grab it for him!"
The school eventually ended up opening a food pantry for the students and was ready to accept food donations. Many people appreciated the teacher for going out of her way to help the student. Renee Hunley wrote, "Bless his heart! And God bless you all for helping him! Now, I need a tissue cause this broke my heart!" Kayla Brock commented, "This absolutely broke my heart reading this. No child deserves to be hungry. Thank you and the other teachers for being a blessing to this child." Jaime Catron Walden remarked, "You are awesome! We have great teachers who love our students in this country."
