70-yr-old woman tried to stop pitbull from attacking pet dog but in vain—then, she did the unimaginable to save him

We know that many canines have a fierce love for their owners that pushes them to go above and beyond to protect them. Pets often risk their lives to save their pet parents. What drives them is their selfless love and owners, too, have an equally noteworthy affection in return. A 70-year-old woman named Shirley Pasamanick was at the Plaza Tropical Supermarket in Orlando when her 14-year-old dog, Sparky, was suddenly attacked by a pitbull, WESH 2 News reported. When the woman tried everything to shoo the dog away but in vain, she went to extraordinary lengths to help her dog.

Pasamanick shared a video on Facebook of how the situation unfolded. The footage captured the woman walking with her dog just outside a store when the pitbull on the loose charged at them. The canine attacked Sparky and once he got hold of him, refused to let go. Caught off guard, the woman tried everything she could to stop the attack but nothing seemed to work. She first used the cane she had in her hands to shoo the pitbull. She also tried to use her hands to open the pitbull’s mouth so she could free her dog. However, the other canine was adamant and aggressive.

The pet parent noted that she was only 91 pounds and wasn’t “strong enough” to do anything else, per WLBT. Worried about Sparky and with moments to act, she decided to do the unthinkable. She leaned down and bit the pitbull’s neck in hopes that it would let go. Eventually, the canine did leave Sparky. The owner of the pitbull hurried over and got hold of his dog. “I heard somebody behind me saying, ‘I got it, I got him, I got him,’ and I said, ‘Get your dog.’ I didn't see the guy,” she recalled. The owner reportedly grabbed the pitbull’s leash and walked away without checking on the woman and her pet.

The woman was disheartened to have had to fight the dog on her own. Despite being at a shopping plaza, she noted that it was upsetting that no one came to her aid. Authorities are on the lookout to identify the owner and the pitbull, and Pasamanick is determined to have some action taken for the intolerable behavior of the canine. “Something has to be done. I was shaking for days after this happened,” she said. She and Sparky, both sustained bites and a few injuries but are recovering. Though slightly shaken by the situation, Pasamanick is more concerned about her dog.
Speaking about her unusual defense, she explained that her dog meant everything to her and she needed to do whatever she could in that moment. Pasamanick noted that because you “have to take care of your dog,” you get small yet significant motives to wake up each day. “He's the reason. Some days I get up, you know, have to walk him, have to care for him. It gives an older person reason to get up if they're feeling bummed out or depressed and stuff,” she noted.
