Mystery man crashed her wedding 4 years ago—when bride finally tracked him down, she wasn't prepared for his wild response

It is really hard to keep track of all that goes down on the wedding day. While you might have planned everything to the T, there are still many stories and realities that go unnoticed on the day of and are uncovered only when someone spills the beans. A couple named Michelle and John Wylie tied the knot in November 2021, PEOPLE revealed. It was only when they got back their pictures that they realized an unknown person had crashed their reception. Curious to figure out who it was, they went on a four-year quest until he finally revealed himself and shared his intention behind the impromptu event.

The Wylies got married at the Carlton Hotel in Prestwick, Scotland. "It wasn't until I got the first few photos back from the photographer and my husband and I were looking at them that we went 'who's that?’” Michelle recalled, per BBC News. The pictures were shared by Dazza, a content creator, who joined the search. As the bride and groom walked down the aisle, a strange man was visible in the pew. Though he was dressed for a wedding, he seemed to have a confusing or unusual look on his face. The couple first turned to friends and family to check if he was a distant relative or a plus-one. However, that didn’t seem to be the case.

He was not a work friend nor someone any of the staff knew. There was “not a single person” who knew who he was. Getting more confused about his identity, she turned to the internet. "It would come into my head and I'd be like 'Someone must know who this guy is,’” Michelle remarked. While they worried he might be a “stalker,” they hoped the online search would yield results… and so it did! Four years after the whole fiasco, just a week ago, the uninvited wedding guest identified himself. Andrew Hillhouse commented on Dazza’s post, saying, “That’s me! I always wondered if this would ever make its way back to me.”

Finally revealing why he crashed the wedding, the man noted that it was never part of the plan. Turns out, his partner was part of the entourage for another wedding on the same day, and he was supposed to be there as the plus-one. Having been told that the wedding was at the Carlton Hotel, he pulled up minutes before the ceremony could begin. “I see a piper outside playing a tune and a bunch of well-dressed people slowly making their way inside and I remember thinking to myself, ‘Cool, this is obviously the right place,’” he recalled. Hillhouse had only the bride, and so when he entered and saw John at the altar, it didn’t strike him that he'd made a terrible blunder.

“The only two people I did know at this wedding were my partner and Michaela (the bride), and they were away in another room, so the fact that I didn't recognise a single person in this place didn't raise any alarm bells,” he remarked. It was only when Michelle walked down the aisle that he realized, “That's not Michaela, who the f**k is that? I was at the wrong wedding!” The photographs were probably captured around that moment, leading to his confused look. The man remained at the ceremony for a few more minutes until it was safe to escape and finally made his way to the right wedding. One of the family members, Amy Wylie, commented, “This is absolutely hilarious! You’ve haunted us for four years!” "I could not stop laughing. We can't believe we've found out who he is after almost four years,” Michelle remarked.
